[Genital chlamydial infection in women studied with the new Clearview Chlamydia diagnostic test].

For the first time in Bulgaria a clinical investigation was carried out using the direct antigen test Clearview Chlamydia for the diagnosis of Chlamydia infection in gynaecologic patients 130 women were examined in whom chlamydial infection was suspected. 43 patients (out of 130) were positive. The conclusion of the study is that the clinical signs of female genital chlamydial infection are not specific and for the exact diagnosis a laboratory test for detecting Chlamydia trachomatis must be carried out. The new diagnostic test Clearview Chlamydia is easy and rapid to perform and could be very useful for the office practice.

[The role of Chlamydia trachomatis in tubal sterility].

The authors carried out a study, examining for chlamydial infection 84 women with tubal infertility and 67 women with non-tubal infertility. The data were analyzed and compared with a group of 45 women with normal intrauterine pregnancy, who were also examined for chlamydial infection. The results observed in the study confirmed the notion that tubal infertility might be due to a sexually transmitted infection with Chlamydia trachomatis.

[Our experience in the diagnosis of chlamydial cervicitis with the Chlamydiasyme and Chlamyset Antigen tests].

The authors analyse in the present study the results of the examination of 309 female patients for chlamydial infection, using Chlamyset Antigen (Orion Diagnostica--Finland) and Chlamydiasyme Diagnostic Kit (Abbott Labs--USA). Chlamydial antigen was found in the endocervix of 15.2% of the examined cases. Comparing the enzyme immunomethod Chlamydiasyme with the immunofluorescent method Chlamyset Antigen the authors found 94.4% diagnostic accuracy.

[Chlamydial infection in women with ectopic pregnancy].

A study was carried out on the presence of antibodies to C. trachomatis in women with ectopic pregnancy, established during laparotomy. Pathohistological examination discovered that ectopic pregnancy occurred due to chronic salpingitis in a larger part of the women. The presence of antibodies to C. trachomatis was found in women with more sexual partners more frequently. Serum data for infection to C. trachomatis did not correlate with inflammatory gynecological diseases, undergone in the past. From the obtained results the authors could conclude that the endured subclinical chlamydial infection has caused damage of the Fallopian tubes, which is the cause for occurrence of ectopic pregnancy.

[Our experience with the treatment of Chlamydia trachomatis in acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the female genitalia].

The effect of antibiotic treatment was studied on 41 women with inflammatory gynecological diseases at the acute and chronic stages as the patients were examined for presence of Chlamydia trachomatis in the endocervix. The high frequency of isolated Chlamydia trachomatis in these women (44.1%) with predominance at the age of 21-25 years show the important role of Chlamydia trachomatis in the etiology of the inflammatory process. Possibilities for therapeutic effect by using various antibiotic combinations are discussed.

[The plasma amino acid profile of women with a normal pregnancy and in pre-eclampsia].

The authors studied the level of some amino acids in the plasma of 10 women with normal pregnancy as well as of 16 women with moderate form of pre-eclampsia. 21 amino acids were determined by a liquid chromatograph, consisting of an automatic controller of the gradient, nonautomatic injector, fluorimetric detector and recording device. The results showed that there were differences in amino-amides of women with normal pregnancy and of nonpregnant women. Concentrations of a large part of amino acids were not changed, but some of them increased--aspargic acid, glutamate, threonine and phenylalanine or reduced--cytroline, methionine, ornithine, glycine, aspargine, alpha-amino acid during pregnancy. The values of amino-acids in women with normal pregnancy and in women with moderate form of preeclampsia did not differ. Ethanol-amine is the only exception and it is found in almost half of the women with preeclampsia. This is an original finding, which deserves further study.

[The indications for surgical methods in treating diseases of the coronary arteries].

Included in the study were 236 operations for ischemic heart disease (IHD) aorto-coronary shunt (ACS)--88 patients; ACS + aneurysmectomy--30; ACS + endarterectomy--12, aneurysmectomy--70; skin endocoronary balloon angioplasty--34, heart transplantation--2. The postoperative mortality was 6.5 per cent. Indications for ACS were specified on the basis of the patients state of well-being, the bicycle ergometry [correction of veloergometric] test, the coronarography and ventriculography, the end diastolic pressure and the ejection fraction. Decisive in selecting patients for operative treatment were the data of selective coronarography.

[Immune responses in women with pre-eclampsia].

Studies were carried out on 26 pregnant women. Sixteen of those women suffered from moderately manifested form of pre-eclampsia, but the remaining ten women had a normal course of pregnancy. The age of women with pre-eclampsia was between 22 to 30 years, but that of the control group--from 30 to 37 years. The women with pre-eclampsia were investigated between 28 to 35 weeks' gestation and the women with normal pregnancy--between 30 to 37 weeks' gestation. Immunoglobulin A, M, G were determined as well as transferrin and T and B lymphocytes. Immunoglobulin A was increased in sera of women with pre-eclampsia, but there were no changes in other examined parameters. It is possible that similar increase could be due to a reduced elimination of immunoglobulin A through the hepatobiliary tract, which cause its elevation in its serum level. The proposed explanation could be accepted as plausible, because there is impairment of liver function in women with preeclampsia. Future studies are needed to prove this fact.

[Changes in the progesterone serum concentration of sexually immature rat pups treated with estradiol and reserpine].

The authors carried out studies on sexually immature rats of Wistar strain. After exact determination of the day of delivery rats were divided into 4 groups: I--injected with 0.9% of sodium chloride on 35th, 36th and 37th day; II--injected with the reserpine only on the same days; III--injected with estradiol on the same days; IV--injected with estradiol on the same days. The animals were killed on the 38th day after delivery. The obtained results revealed that progesterone concentration in sera of sexually immature rats was not increased after treatment with estradiol. This showed that similar effect, established in sexually mature rats, was observed in sexually immature rats as well. Serum progesterone concentration of sexually immature rats was elevated after treatment with estradiol and reserpine. This is a new original fact for participation of adrenergic system in formation of steroid sexual hormone--progesterone in the ovary.

[Clinico-experimental research on acute isoproturon poisoning in sheep].

The toxic action of the carbamide preparation isoproturon-50 was followed up after oral administration at a single dose rate of 3600 mg per kg body mass. Studied were also the clinical picture, body temperature, pulse rate and respiratory excursions, appetite, general behaviour and such biochemical indices as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, carotene, vitamin A, blood sugar, total protein, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase.

[Action of fenitrothion (Agria 1050) on the development of a surgical infection with Corynebacterium pyogenes in sheep].

Investigations were carried out on twelve Starozagorska breed sheep divided into two groups of 6 animals each. All sheep were treated with phenitrothion (Agria-50) at the rate of 300 mg per kg body mass, singly, by means of a stomach tube. At the first hour of treatment the sheep of the second group were injected with 3 cm3 broth culture of Corynebacterium pyogenes. The general condition, the manifestation of signs of toxicity, and some paraclinical indices were followed up. The animals of the first group exhibited symptoms of toxicity and changes in the paraclinical indices, which was characteristic of the weak form of the infection course. Those of the second group developed the disease at a rapid course, with affection of the general state, atony of the forestomach, substantial changes in the hemopoiesis, the enzyme activity, the glycogenesis process, and the blood picture (erythropenia, drop of the hemoglobin content, higher erythrocyte sedimentation rate, leukocytosis with neutrophilia, strong drop of plasmal and serum cholinesterase, hyperglycaemia). Results pointed to the fact that Agria-1050 intoxication aggravated the course of the supurative surgical infection.
