Authors report on 25 patients treated for gastric cancers associated, synchronously or metachronously, with other malignant tumour. Hypotheses for the development of multiple malignant tumours are reviewed. They state that the prognosis of the second tumour is worse for its late detection and stress the importance of follow-up that also considers the possible development of a new tumour.
The authors report on their observations of nine patients with anorectal sarcoma. They agree with others that best results can be expected from radical surgery. Even in operable patients anorectal sarcomas have a worse prognosis than other malignant lesions in the same region.

Cisternal CSF specimens were obtained from 144 fasted individuals free from organic brain disease (42 males and 102 females; mean age 41 +/- 10.3 years, range 16-69 years). In 30 cases a simultaneous lumbar puncture was also performed. The concentration of CSF glucose (G1) was measured by the o-toluidine method, and that of lactate (La) and pyruvate (Py) by enzymatic tests. No significant difference was found between the mean G1 and Py values of the lumbar and cisternal CSF but the lumbar La was somewhat higher than the cisternal one (P less than 0.10). In the cisternal CSF the frequency distribution of G1, La and Py samples was a Gaussian one (P less than 0.05). The normal ranges, as mean +/- 2SD, were for La 0.680-2.100 mM/1, and for Py lower limits of the range (between mean +/- 2 SD and mean +/- 1 SD) are considered to be potentially pathological. No significant difference was found between the mean G1, La and Py values in males and females. Consistent age-related changes could not be detected either in the G1 or Py levels, however, a tendency for La increase was observed in the oldest-age-group (over 54 years). A negative correlation was found between the G1 and La concentrations of the cisternal CSF (r = 0.375; P less than 0.001).

When planning canned foods the protein value Net Dietary-protein Energy percent = 8% of a 5-month old infant's requirement was considered as constant. The nutritive value required for this purpose was calculated on the basis of amino acid composition, making use of the Morup-Olesen index. Canned foods were made of two protein-containing components, of sunflower-oil and (occasionally) of starch, by computer, keeping the energy value constant, i. e. 1250 kJ, which covers half of the infant's daily requirement. The optimalization based on the protein value is illustrated by the examples of egg-potato, beef-peas and flour-beans pairs, considering the practical requirements as well.
The concentrations of glucose, pyruvate and lactate were determined in the blood and lumbar CSF of 63 patients with neuromuscular disorders and 40 controls. The glucose/lactate and lactate/pyruvate ratios were also calculated, in addition to the cytoplasmic NADH/NAD+ (nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide-H/nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide) ratio in the brain. Remarkable deviations from control values were found not only in blood but also in the CSF of patients with different neuromuscular diseases, particularly in Duchenne muscular dystrophy and peroneal muscular atrophy, indicative of disturbance of the carbohydrate metabolism in the central nervous system.
The case of a 23-year-old male patient with marked secondary lymphoedema of the penis, scrotum and left leg is reported. Lymphovenous shunt was performed with excellent results.
A rapid one-step gradient centrifugation method to prepare PMN leucocytes has been worked out by which a 98--99% pure, washed granulocyte suspension of 98% viability can be obtained in 30--40 minutes. The cells prepared by this method displayed higher NBT reduction upon ingesting the same soluble DNA-anti DNA complexes than those prepared by the dextran sedimentation method.
