[Use of isothiobarbamin in the correction of disorders of the vital activities of the brain in intracerebral hemorrhage].

Isothiobarbamin injected intravenously to cats in the phase of circulatory hypoxia 1-2 days after intracerebral hemorrhage improves the functional activity, blood supply, oxygen supply to the brain, prevents excessive accumulation of lactate in the brain tissue. The drug exerts the stimulating effect on the disordered local blood flow: the blood supply to the ischemic areas increases, and that of the hyperemic ones decreases. The mechanism of the vasodilative effect of isothiobarbamin is due to inhibition of Ca2+ delivery through the potential-dependent and serotonin-activated channels of the smooth muscle plasmic membrane. The drug activity increases with a rise of the initial vascular tone.

[Effect of glycerin on several indices of intracranial hemodynamics and the electroencephalogram of wakeful cats with experimental intracerebral hemorrhage].

An intravenous infusion of glycerin to cats 24-48 hours after an intracerebral hemorrhage contributes to normalization of the EEG, Intensifies the local blood flow in the visual cortex, thalamus and reticular formation of the midbrain in both hemispheres (predominantly in the regions of the right affected hemisphere). The drug produces a fall in the absolute values of the intracranial pressure without its secondary rise after infusion is discontinued and causes a moderate rise of the perfusion pressure. The intravenous infusion of glycerin is more effective than its single injection.

[Effect of gutimine on the electroencephalogram and cerebral blood supply of cats with intracerebral hemorrhage].

It was shown in experiments on conscious cats 1-2 days after intracerebral hemorrhage (administration of 2 ml autogenous blood in the internal capsule of the right hemisphere) that intravenous injection of 50 mg/kg gutimin led to an increase in the brain blood supply. The increased local blood flow was recorded in the cortex, thalamus of the affected hemisphere, particularly in the midbrain reticular formation. Experiments in vitro demonstrated that gutimin had a direct dilatatory action on isolated strips of the cat internal maxillary artery, with this action being determined by inhibition of the metabolism of exo- and intracellular calcium.

[Mechanism of the vasodilator action of kavinton on the cerebral vessels].

Experiments on human middle cerebral and cat internal maxillary arteries have shown high vasodilative activity of cavinton. The mechanism of the vasodilative action of the drug involves inhibition of the ingress of exocellular calcium via electrogenic and chemosensitive channels, suppression of calcium mobilization from the intracellular depot with depolarization of the membranes of vascular smooth cells and a decrease in phosphodiesterase activity.

[Effect of prolonged intracarotid infusion of euphylline on the brain blood supply and metabolism of cats with intracerebral hemorrhage].

In cats with intracerebral hemorrhage, prolonged intracarotid infusion of euphylline led to unfavourable changes in brain blood supply and metabolism. An increase in the overall cerebral circulation seen during infusion was replaced by a long-term lowering after its completion. Activation of brain oxygen consumption in the presence of the decreased cerebral circulation led to dysproportion between oxygen supply and consumption enhancing cerebral tissue hypoxia. Euphylline-induced glucose consumption with predominance of glucose anaerobic metabolism over aerobic one was followed by lactate accumulation in the brain. Taking into consideration the data obtained it is necessary to be very cautious as regards the use of intracarotid euphylline infusions in patients with subarachnoidal and intracerebral hemorrhages.

[Changes in blood-filling and cerebrovascular tonus in experimental intracerebral hemorrhage and their correction by means of intravenous infusions of glycerin].

According to the results of rheoencephalography, intracerebral hemorrhage in wakeful cats is attended by an increase in the tone of the cerebral vessels, particularly those of moderate and small caliber, which occurs immediately after blood is introduced into the brain and persists till the end of the follow-up period (48 hours). Intravenous glycerine infusion given one hour and 1-2 days after the hemorrhage causes normalization of the vascular tone. The causes of disparity between the rheoencephalogram indices characterising the tone of the cerebral vessels and their blood filling are discussed.

[Effect of euphylline on the blood supply and functional activity of the brain in waking cats with experimental intracerebral hemorrhage].

Experiments on 26 conscious cats with experimental intrarebral hemorrhage showed that 24-48 hours after blood administration, intracarotid infusion of euphylline promoted EEG returning to normal, enhanced the local blood flow of the test structures of both hemispheres and produced hurried breathing without material changes in the systemic arterial blood pressure. Administration of the drugs in the later periods (days 7-8) was not effective and even produced a decrease in blood supply to the affected hemisphere. EEG tendency towards normal remains unchanged.

[The polyethylene oxide correction of the hemodynamic sequelae in the infusion therapy of massive blood loss].

High molecular weight polyethylene oxides (2 x 10(6), 4 x 10(6), and 6 x 10(6)) were tested for their effects on blood pressure, cerebral circulation in rats with massive hemorrhage and turbulent blood flow velocity in the pre- and posthemorrhagic and polyglucine posttreatment. Polyethylene oxide (4 x 10(6) and 6 x 10(6)) alleviated hypotension and cerebral hypoperfusion, which appeared 0.5-1 hour after polyglucine therapy and increased turbulent blood flow velocity. Polyethylene oxide failed to affect spontaneous and alcian blue-induced red blood cell aggregation.

[The effect of cerebrocrast on the microcirculation in acute transient cerebral ischemia].

In experiments on rats with cerebral ischemia (30-min occlusion of carotid arteries), the novel calcium antagonist Cerebrocrast (0.4 microgram.kg-1.min-1 i.v. for 15 min) was found to provide the functional maintenance of the parietal cerebral bed in the postischemic period by improving cerebral hemodynamics, reducing the number of highly narrowed capillaries. The agent prevented the erythrocytic accumulation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products (diene conjugates and Schiff bases) in the intra- and postischemic periods, promoted the maintenance of viscoelastic properties during LPO activation.
