A study of proteinograms of some strains of mycobacteria with the use of the method of electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel showed that individual strains had characteristic protein spectra which could serve as one of the possible taxonomic characteristics. Analysis of proteinograms of three groups of mycobacteria (tuberculosis, atypical and saprophytes) by electrophoretic mobility of the fractions, with consideration to their homologous character and by the intensity of protein fractions in the mobility zones pointed to heterogeneity of the group of atypical strains and their greater similarity to tuberculosis mycobacteria than to acid-fast saprophytes. Proteinograms of strains H37 Rv and Bov-8 proved to be identical; a marked similarity between the protein spectra of M. avium and M. battey was revealed.

A technique of surgical treatment of urinary stress incontinence (USI) in women is proposed. It consists of three stages. Stage 1 (intervaginal)--anterior colporaphy with plastic reconstruction of urogenital diaphragmatic muscles. Stage 2 (an original procedure)--fixation of the neck of the urinary bladder to musculus rectus abdominis and aponeurosis by means of three caprone ligatures by dissection of the anterior abdominal wall to the peritoneum. Stage 3--posterior colporaphy, perineolevatoroplasty. Stage 3 is conducted if the patient has marked rectocele simultaneously or 6 months after the initial operation. As shown by examination of 60 patients 1-20 years after the operation, good results were achieved in 91.2% of cases. The proposed method is simple, effective, involves all the pathogenetic links, corrects the changes in anatomofunctional condition of the lower urinary tracts restoring the "integral sphincter mechanism of the pelvis". It is recommended for treatment of females with moderate and severe USI or patients with enuresis type 2 and 3.
A test system based on EIA was developed for evaluating the efficiency of drugs active towards the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in cell culture. Virasole and its structural analog ribamedii active towards RSV infection and arbidol whose activity in RSV infection is unknown were tested. Like virasole and ribamedil, arbidol inhibited the expression of RSV antigens, the inhibitory effect increasing with the drug concentration and decreased with increase of the multiplicity of virus infection. MIC50 for arbidol, virasole, and ribamedil were 10, 5, and 6 micrograms/ml, respectively. These data prompt clinical trials of arbidol in RSV infection.

Inhibition of the synthesis of virus-specific proteins of influenza A/WSN/33 virus in the cells of chick embryo fibroblasts and in continuous cells of dog embryonal kidney was discovered as was a negligible inhibition of the synthesis of cell proteins in the presence of an original synthetic antivirus drug bonaphthon. Experiments were made to attain selective inhibition of individual virus-specific proteins of influenza virus in these cultures. In model experiments in vitro in a cell-free protein-synthesizing system, bonaphthon was demonstrated to inhibit translation of RNA-virus of encephalomyocarditis on the virus template without affecting translation on the cell template of hemoglobin mRNA.
