[Evaluation of the proliferative activity of malignant human tumors by an indirect immunofluorescent method using antithymidine antibodies].

155 samples of human malignant tumours were studied by the immunofluorescent method and the antithymidine antibodies index-labelling (IL--% of tumour cells in the S-phase). Wide individual variability (0.1-73%) of IL of the studied tumours was shown to be present and to be preserved inside the tumours which were homogeneous by the histological type and developmental stage. A correlation between the labelling index and tumour differentiation in the gastric adenocarcinoma is observed.

[Barrett's esophagus and cancer of the cardial section of the stomach].

Morphological characteristics of Barrett's oesophagus were specified in 17 patients with cancer located in the cardiac orifice of the stomach. It was found that Barrett's oesophagus patients comprise 6.7% of all the authors' observations with relevant cancer diagnosis. The oesophagus appeared different in mucosal pattern, cells of the coat, glands, the degree of glandular epithelial dysplasia. Barrett's oesophagus is suggested to play a role in the genesis of cardiac gastric cancer whose malignant potential is the highest when oesophageal glands are cardiac. Applicability of the findings in general and in particular in clinical practice for deciding on the level of oesophageal resection in patients with cardiac gastric cancer is discussed.

[Organization of hospital care for cancer patients].

Due to errors in the planning and development of cancer hospital system there is a gap between the present-day cancer morbidity levels and the number and profile of oncological hospital beds. Fresh approaches to cancer control planning are required. Improvement in treatment strategies is an important factor of cancer in--patient service development.

[Experimental evaluation of tumor therapy with cytostatic agents deposited in the abdominal cavity in acetylcellulose].

For the purpose of improving the effectiveness of the chemotherapy of gastrointestinal tract tumours, the experimental investigation of the possibility to deposit the various antitumour preparations in the abdominal cavity by including them into acetylcellulose microspheres was carried out. It was shown that the use of the polymeric drug complexes permits obtaining a significantly more pronounced antitumour effect than the introduction of the same preparation in a free form. A decrease of the toxic effect of the deposited preparations was established.
