[The habitat and environment-induced imbalance of trace elements in the populations in the population of urban and rural areas].

A comprehensive hygienic assessment was made of natural and anthropogenic risk factors and conditions for trace element deficiencies in the populations of urban and rural areas. All chemicals identified were evaluated in the environmental objects. The mean daily absorption dose for the population was estimated. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the concentrations of Cu, Fe, Zn, Pb, Mn, Ni, Cr, Co, Cd, Sr in the biological media (hair, blood, bone tissue, placenta) in the populations of an industrial town and rural areas and their levels in some abnormalities and also compares the spectral composition of trace elements in the hair and blood with that obtained by other authors.

[Ecological aspects of myasthenia gravis in the Orenburg region].

The paper reflects the problem of adverse environmental factors on human health, including those on the prevalence of myasthenia and on the blood levels of trace elements in the patient. It outlines the environmental status in the Orenburg Region, which is most unfavorable in the Eastern and Central areas. Myasthenia morbidity trends for its increase are covered in 1967 to 2006. The paper also shows the prevalence of myasthenia, with predominance per 100,000 individuals in the Eastern and Central areas, which coincides with the highest anthropogenic load in these areas. The data of a preliminary analysis of trace elements, such as copper, zinc, manganese, nickel, lead, strontium, chromium, cadmium, cobalt, iron, in the blood of patients with myasthenia as compared with those in controls and by regions reflect a general trend for the blood levels of these trace elements to be decreased, as well as their imbalance by the areas of the Orenburg Region.

[Hygienic assessment of trace element levels in drinking water and food products within the system of socio-hygienic monitoring system].

The paper provides a comprehensive hygienic assessment of the levels of the essential and toxic trace elements chosen in terms of regional features in drinking water and foodstuffs of locally manufactured products. Priority pollutants of drinking water and foodstuffs are defined in the eastern, western, and central lands of the Orenburg Region. A significant imbalance of essential trace elements was revealed. Daily oral intake of priority and toxic trace elements were calculated in foodstuffs and drinking water.

[Hygienic evaluation of environmental effect on health status of residents of an industrial city under conditions of insurance medicine].

The chemical environmental pollution of industrial urban areas was comprehensively assessed. There was a correlation between some diseases and chemicals; some pollutants exert unidirectional adverse effects on human health. As a way of influencing the man-made load, the authors suggest that an increasing coefficient to the allocations to the health insurance fund should be introduced for the enterprises that cause the proven hazard to human health. The addressing approach to analyzing morbidity rates increases the validity of studies establishing the relationship of environmental factors to health indices.

[The characteristics of the behavior and brain lipid peroxidation function of rats in acute inhalation exposure to a hydrogen sulfide-containing gas condensate].

As a result of the effect of the gas condensate containing hydrogen sulfide a depression takes place of orienting-investigatory activity of Wistar male rats in conditions of open field, disturbance of elaboration and reproduction of conditioned reflex of two-way avoidance, surplus accumulation in the cerebral cortex tissue of products of peroxide lipids oxidation and depression of catalase. The changes were of cyclic character and returned to the level of the control animals in 48 h after the finishing of the effect.

[Content of trace elements in the bottoms of open water reservoirs in the Western part of the Orenburg Region].

The mean concentrations of trace elements were determined in the bottoms of open water reservoirs in the western part of the Orenburg Region. The content of chromium was found to exceed the maximum permissible concentration by about 5 times, that of zinc and nickel complies with the clarke; that of copper was nearly 2 times less than the clarke, that of cobalt and vanadium is nearly 1.5 times less. The concentrations of trace elements in the bottoms were compared with those in soil, portable water, and snow cover in order to elucidate possible sources of origin.

Chromium↗

[Lead pollution of some environmental areas].

The levels of lead were determined in snow water, soil, and sludge. Its highest concentration was found in the deposits of the eastern and central areas of the region. These are areas with elevated technogenic loads. The concentration of lead in the snow cover was compared with its levels in the sludge and soil.

[Free radical oxidation in the assessment of health risk].

Aliovalent metals (d-metals, such as manganese, nickel, iron, copper, chromium, etc.) which are able to change the degree of oxidation, to activate free radical oxidative processes, and to initiate the development of the condition that is currently defined as oxidative stress soundly and which are diagnostic criteria in the prenosological assessment of health risks are prominent among other priority ambient air pollutants. The findings suggest that there is a direct relationship between the calculated indices characterizing the carcinogenic and noncarcinogenic effects, the risk of oxidative stress, the environmental availability of prooxidants, mainly d-elements (manganese, nickel, copper, zinc) and the actual values of an increase in the rate of lipid peroxidation, of a decrease in antioxidative activity, and of an elevation in the level of methemoglobin formation.

[The effect of adaptation to the periodic action of hypoxia on the indices of the immunity system and on the course of allergic diseases].

The authors studied the effect of adaptation to periodical exposure to hypoxia on the organism's immune status and the values of neurohumoral regulation in children with bronchial asthma and adults suffering from allergic dermatoses and autoimmune thyroiditis. It was found that adaptation facilitated normalization of humoral values of immunity in allergic and autoimmune disorders (the content of serum immunoglobulins increased while the level of circulating immune complexes reduced) and was attended by a stable therapeutic effect. The revealed changes of the immune values occurred in increase of the reserve potency of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal and sympathoadrenal systems and reduction of the blood histamine level.
