Abstract

This article describes measures designed to provide short-term solutions to existing RPD problems and to establish an optimum oral environment for the provision of definitive prostheses.

Home relines and residual ridge resorption.

Two cases of patients who have relined their complete dentures with home-applied materials in an attempt to improve the denture stability are discussed. The resultant damage to the residual tissues is described. A review of the literature on the effects of home relines leads to suggestions for the regular review of patients who wear complete dentures.

Microwave processing for denture relines, repairs, and rebases.

The microwave processing procedure has been shown to be an efficient and accurate method of polymerizing poly(methyl methacrylate) resin for the fabrication of dentures. This article describes procedures to expand the uses of the microwave technique. With standard laboratory procedures, the microwave technique can improve and simplify denture relines, repairs, and rebasing of partial dentures.
